About Dallas
The Dallas, TX metroplex provides a near optimal condition for the presence of insects. The combination of warm weather with moderate rain throughout the year makes it an excellent suitor for insects of all kinds. The average temperature during the peak of pest season in the months of April through October in the metroplex (which includes cities such as Dallas, Plano, Allen, McKinney, Frisco, Little Elm, and others) ranges from a high of 95 in July to a low of 54 in April. During this time, May brings the best chance of rain with an average rainfall in that month of just over 5 inches. This mix in the warmer months of moisture with temperatures in the high 90’s and into the 100’s creates a perfect climate for the many pests that our customers find to be a plain nuisance.
Once our weather in the Dallas area (which also includes areas such as Murphy, Wylie, Aubrey, Lewisville, and others) reaches a sustained temperature of above 70 degrees for over a week or so, it seems as if our phones begin to consistently ring with questions and added service calls for spiders, ants, earwigs, and fleas. Climate plays a huge role in the activity of many pests. As temperatures begin to rise, insect eggs that have laid dormant through the winter months begin to hatch and insects begin again to colonize and reproduce. This explosion of the insect population can happen very quickly and is why a regular service through the cooler months is important to keep the pest population from getting out of control in the spring and early summer.
Spiders are also a problem for a lot of home owners in the Dallas metroplex (which also includes cities such as McKinney, Plano, Murphy, Allen, Frisco, Aubrey, and others). Although spiders are what are termed as a beneficial insect, many people fear them because of their sometimes intimidating appearance. Spiders help to keep other insect populations in check by feeding on them. The Wolf Spider is especially one of these beneficial spiders because they not only feed on other insects, but other spiders as well. They are hunting spiders and most of their prey lives around the immediate perimeter of our homes. Because the wolf spider’s prey lives so close to where we live, the wolf spider is a common pest that gets into homes as well. Although they are not considered dangerous (as a black widow or brown recluse is) they can reach considerable size in optimal conditions. To help keep their numbers to a minimum, our exterior power spray service is an excellent way to control them and keep them from getting into your home.
Another big pest related problem in the Dallas area are fire ants. Fire ants are distinguished from other ants by the large dirt mounds that they construct in the lawn. The mounds are of varying sizes and just like an iceberg, what you see on the top of the soil is just the tip of the entire colony. Fire ants can go as deep as 20 feet in the ground in search of water and can travel through the soil to connect themselves to several colonies. This is why a topical treatment is not very thorough in treating fire ants. Either a bait or a product such as Top Choice is a necessary Dallas Pest Control treatment to make sure these problem ants aren’t a problem for you and your family.
