Dallas Common Pests

Spiders – There are hundreds of different species of spiders that are found in the Dallas metropolitan area which includes Dallas, Plano, Wylie, Murphy, McKinney, Allen, Aubrey, Frisco, and other cities as well.  Many people have a degree of arachnophobia and wish to eliminate all spiders from their property inside and outside of the home.  While it is not possible to eliminate any bug outside, we certainly can take measures to reduce the overall numbers that exist on a home’s exterior.  The best defense we have to keep spiders from entering our home is our power spray barrier.  We put a protective power spray barrier two feet up on a home and four feet from the base of the home, thus putting a six foot barrier that all insects and spiders have to pass through in order to reach the home.  We will also spray the eaves of the home where spiders nest and sweep them with our Webster dusters.  This will help to eliminate unsightly webs that may also house spider eggs. 

Roaches – Roaches are a common pest as well in the Dallas area.  There are many different types of roaches that are present, and if you’re not from the area be prepared for the large American Roaches that are in abundance here.  These roaches are large and can fly and can be very intimidating to one that is not use to seeing them.  Although unsightly, they are not a risk to house and breed in a home as other types of roaches are such as the smaller German roach.  American roaches (sometimes called “tree roaches”) usually live and breed outdoors.  If you have these types of roaches coming into your home, check to see if you have any tree limbs touching your home.  American roaches can go from trees to your home by way of the branches touching the roof or side of your home.  Clearing any leaf litter and other refuse from your yard will dramatically cut down harborage areas for these roaches and reduce their numbers as well.  The smaller German roaches will breed and colonize in a home.  They can carry and spread disease and make it essential to eradicate once detected.  Depending on the severity of infestation, a gel bait or fumigant will be required to take care of them.

Ants – Saying that the Dallas area including areas such as Little Elm, Allen, Frisco, Plano, McKinney, Princeton, and other surrounding cities has a problem with ants is quite an understatement.  There are many different types of ants that can create a problem for homeowners in our area.  Perhaps the most dangerous would be the fire ant.  They create quite the problem because of their painful sting they can inflict.  We use a product called Top Choice fire ant granule that by far is the most complete fire ant treatment.  Other ants that create problems inside the home include the pharaoh ant, little black ant and odorous house ant.  These are just a few of the ants that are a nuisance to home owners.  We take care of ant problems by treating the home on the inside as well as the outside.  We will generally use some type of ant bait gel on the interior of the home in combination with a non repellant spray on the exterior that will help to knock out many different types of ants as well.
