Click on the titles below to learn how Preventive sets the standard for the pest control industry.
Active Ingredients
The following are a list of the most common chemical categories used in the pest control industry:
- Pyrethrins – Also known as pyrethrum or pyrethroid. Chemical structure is derived from the chrysanthemum plant. These products cannot typically be purchased over the counter.
- Carbamates – Usually identified by the "carb" prefix or suffix, or by the "yl" suffix. These are highly poisonous acute kill products. They typically have no residual. Some examples are Baygon and Sevin.
- Organophosphates – These products can be bought over the counter, however many are currently being banned by the EPA. The most common examples are Diazinon, Dursban, and Malathion.
Pyrethrins are not only the most pet and people friendly of the three categories, but they are also the most effective. They are natural and biodegradable. Preventive uses the most effective and friendliest pyrethrins available to service your home.
Formulations
Application Methods
The most common application methods of these products are through liquid sprays, though Preventive makes use of many other methods depending on the particular problem being addressed. Typically liquid sprays are dispersed through one of the following two ways:
- B&G – A hand held pump-spray canister. Contains about 1 gal. of liquid product and provides about a 2 in. by 3 in. barrier.
- Power Sprayer – Twenty-five gallon sprayer mounted in the bed of a truck. This application method allows for much larger barriers (2 ft. by 4 ft.) as well as treating eaves, doors, windows, and other entry points.
For exterior barrier treatments, power spraying is far superior due to increased output and penetration. It is also safer because it is so effective on the exterior that it reduces the need to spray inside. Most companies in the pest control industry use a B&G for barrier treatments.
Preventive Pest Control offers the best in all three categories. On every service we use a power sprayer to apply a microencapsulated product called Demand CS to the exterior of your home. Demand CS is a premier product that contains an active ingredient called Lambda-Cyhalothrin, which is a synthetic pyrethrin. You don't need to leave your home, there's no unpleasant smell, and it leaves no trace after it quickly dries.
As a result of using the best products, formulations, and application methods available in the industry, our services are friendlier, more effective, and less expensive. Find out for yourself. Call Preventive today to schedule service.
