Ants

When ants enter homes, they do so because they are searching for food and water. Sometimes, they will create their own colony indoors. Whether your home is clean or dirty, this pest will roam around inside. Droughts will increase of ant activities. As the environment becomes drier, ants will be more relentless in their search for water. Food will also become scarce, which makes your home all the more enticing to them.

Cockroaches

Cockroaches can be found in every part of the world. They are great at surviving and hiding, which is why it is difficult to eradicate them. The four types of cockroaches that are common in Nevada are the American, Australian, Oriental, and German cockroaches. These pest loves to stay near moisture and in areas where they have easy access to food. After the winter, roaches will become more active as the temperature starts to warm up.

Silverfish

The presence of silverfish is common in buildings and dwellings. Although they do not carry any form of diseases, they can cause damage to foods and goods unless properly controlled. These pests do not fly like many other types of pests, but rather travel most of the time through boxes, bags, groceries, laundry, books, and the likes. Once inside, they hide in walls until they find the perfect way to travel to the next home.
Spiders. Most of these spiders do not pose any threat to humans or pets. However, the three main spiders that can potentially harm people are the desert recluse, the black widow, and the camel spider. It is necessary to be cautious when handling spiders, especially at home if you suspect that it is one of these three. But, as said, most spiders are harmless and they may even run away from you if they are seen.

Scorpions

Scorpions are frequently seen in Nevada during the seasons of spring and fall because these are the times when scorpions mate. Particularly in Nevada, an increase in numbers of the bark scorpion has been spotted. If you suspect that your home is infested with bark scorpions, search for them at night and use a black light in dark spaces, ceilings, and across floors since the exoskeletons glow in the dark. The sting of the scorpion is more dangerous to children than with adults. However, sensitive individuals may also suffer from severe pain, convulsions, drooling, sweating, and the likes. Adults may also suffer from high blood pressure, rapid breathing, increased heart rate, muscle twitching, and weakness.

Bees

Bees are mostly conserved and not destroyed. However, one kind of honeybee that is drawing much negative attention is the Africanized honeybee that was brought to Brazil in an attempt to increase agricultural production. Their experiments backfired, and the Africanized honeybees escaped, which led to their emergence in Nevada. This bee is known to be more aggressive than the other bees. If you are attacked, protect your head since these bees target your head and sting it. Run and search for shelter where these bees cannot get in, such as your home or car. Seek medical attention if you have been stung. Call 911 if you become dizzy, have difficulty breathing, or if your lips or fingernails turn blue.

Earwigs

Earwigs are known to be pests to flowers, fruits, and vegetables. They will mostly come out at night in search of cool, damp places to hide. They prefer to stay in gardens or in areas where plants are placed. Gardeners in Nevada naturally hate earwigs because of what they can do to fruits.

Ticks

Ticks may be a summer outdoor pest, but they can still be around and active in temperatures above freezing levels and can possibly pass their potential victims pathogens such as Lyme disease. This is especially true for the adult western black-legged ticks. While the cold winter season is soon to pass, ticks may soon become regular guests in your home. To avoid ticks from sucking the life of your pet, and avoid the dangers of being bitten, make certain to prevent them from happening in the first place. Certain precautions can be followed, such as asking your pet’s veterinarian for effective parasite control, being cautious when being outdoors, and always checking your pet for possible ticks and fleas.

Hornets

The bald-faced hornets are considered dangerous and aggressive. While they are a seasonal pest, they can create hives or nests near homes or even inside a house where it can be difficult to remove. Places where these hornets create nests are in shrubs, trees, buildings, attics, and so on. Hornets can be very aggressive when their nests are removed. Unlike their bee cousins that can only sting once, this pest can sting a single individual multiple times without dying, which makes them more dangerous to their potential victim.

Mice

Nevada is the home to hundreds of different species of animals that include house mice, deer mice, and white-footed mice. These pests are great climbers and can consume less, but destroy more. Rodents are known to carry different diseases that include hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. Getting this disease can happen when a person comes in contact with infected rodents or their urine and droppings. To combat mice from entering your home, make certain to seal all possible entry points. If the mouse is already at home make certain to set baits and traps to capture the mouse and get rid of it properly.
