• These spiders are known as hunters and rely on their keen eyesight to be able to find other insects to devour

• Wolf Spiders have eight eyes with a row of four small ones just beneath a row of two larger ones. A third row of eyes include two smaller ones.

• If a flashlight is directed onto the spider, a phenomenon known as “eyeshine” occurs which redirects the objects light so that we can see where Wolf Spiders may be lurking in the dark.

• Wolf Spiders are known to wait outside of where insects are burrowing for them to wander out before they prey on the unsuspecting creature.

• There are over two hundred different species that belong to the Wolf Spider category.

• These spiders are prevalent all over the United States and have higher concentrations in California, Missouri and Texas.

• The Carolina Wolf Spider is the largest in the genera, averaging a length of over an inch.

• Females carry their eggs in a sac around their abdomen. The spider must alter the way they crawl to accommodate the burgeoning sac.

• Wolf Spiders crawl into homes through openings in the foundation of the home or in cracks in the window casing of the home.

• Once inside, Wolf Spider infestations can grow quickly and it is best to call a professional if you see the spiders crawling around your home.
